EMP Bike Rooms to be re-done

The EMP bike rooms will be re-painted and renovated. It’s definitely overdue. The increase from $25 to $60/year is a bit steep. Encouraging use of bikes and green transportation should be encouraged! Although, we suppose the increase will encourage people to get rid of their old broken-down bikes that haven’t been used in 10 years!

  1. In the G Building, maintenance frequently shoves the bikes aside to store their ladders, etc. These bikes are easily damaged and this should not be happening. It’s a designated bike room, not a storage area. Hopefully, with the new design, this will no longer happen!

The increase is steep. Why do we have to pay $60/year for bikes and there is no charge for baby carriages which take up 3 times more space? Also, by not charging for baby carriages, we are encouraging the owners to just leave the baby carriages in the bike/pram room after junior no longer needs it.

  2. Well, it looks like there were a number of issues with the bike rooms, at least in the A building. The slots are so close together that it is very hard to reach the lock if other bikes are parked next to yours. A good solution would be to eliminate every third slot to allow bikers to access the locks. I have also heard people complain that they won’t be able to use the slots which require the bikes to be lifted because they are not strong enough. Another issue is that the bike slots for standing bikes only allow the front wheel to be locked in unless you happen to have a very long chain. This is not very secure as somebody can detach the front wheel from a bike.
