Is it a 99 Cent Store if nothing is 99 cents

The 99 cent store on 23rd Street has re-opened with a new design and new owners. As with the previous store, nothing in here is 99 cents. In fact, most of their poor quality merchandise is more expensive than buying a better quality name-brand in the supermarket or drug store. Maybe they should change the awnings. They will likely be out of business again soon.

New Pharmacy on 23rd Street

There has been a ‘New Pharmacy’ sign in the window of this space on 23rd Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue for a year. Construction is now under way. They will certainly have a lot of competition with CVS and Halpern between 1-2 Ave, and Duane Reades on 3rd and Lexington Avenues.

What’s going into Kips Bay?

They are doing work at the old Border’s store in Kip’s Bay. It’s rumored that it will be a Staples, TD Bank or Citibank. Also rumored is that Whole Foods, Trader Joes or Fairway will move into the old Office Depot space which has been empty for years.
